Fire near Tayuman Street in Tondo under control

MANILA, Philippines—The fire that gutted a commercial establishment and still unidentified number of houses nearby in Manila had been placed under control Tuesday afternoon, a city fire officer said.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Marson Perez said the fire along Antonio Rivera Street corner Tayuman in Tondo, Manila that started at 11:33 a.m., reached fifth alarm before it was declared under control at 5:06 p.m.

Perez said initial information reaching their office reveal that among the establishments gutted by fire is a storage area of umbrella’s and other merchandise.

The cause and origin of fire is yet to be identified after post-fire investigations, he said.

Meanwhile, radio reports said at least four people were injured from the fire, including three fire fighters.

It also said 10 nearby houses were burned, placing the cost of damages at roughly P2 million.
