Bad driving foils plan to steal ‘lumpia’ van
He allegedly cooked up a scheme to steal one of his former employer’s vehicles then loaded with hundreds of cheese spring rolls (lumpia).
But due to a sloppy getaway, the plan backfired on Giey Odas, 20, a former factory worker at Super Corn Food Products in Valenzuela City.
Police said Odas sneaked into the factory on Santiago Street, Barangay Parada, at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, commandeered an Elf-type delivery van, but ended up ramming it into the warehouse gates.
The noise woke up one of the stay-in secretaries of the company, who then alerted village officials.
Odas continued driving until he hit another gate, and was eventually cornered by responding village watchmen.
He remained in the custody of the Valenzuela police on Tuesday, facing charges of car theft. Nathaniel R. Melican
