MJDL trips Blue in Abbariao hoop
THE MJDL Customs Brokerage strengthened its hold of the lead with a 4-0 record after beating Blue, 66-61 Thursday night in the Customs – 3rd Major Alfonso Abbariao Cup-2012 basketball tournament at the Basak San Nicolas gym.
MJDL led comfortably in the first three quarters but Blue caught fire in the final quarter with Chito Manahan nailing five successive triples as the latter came to within a point, 61-62 with 26 seconds left in the match. But MJDL scored the game’s final four points for the 5-point victory.
Jaymar Elloren and Elmer Cabaltera led MJDL with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Chito Manahan paced Blue (1-3) with 19 points.
Earlier, Green nipped the Cebu International Port Users (CIPU), 87-85, for its 3rd win in as many games.
The game was closely fought all throughout until Green broke from an 85-all tie on Noel Medalle’s buzzer-beating jumper.
Medalle led Green with 23 points while Broker Mondin paced CIPU with a night-high 36 markers spiked by 10 triples.
