LEGAZPI CITY—Two suspected rebels were killed in an encounter with Army soldiers at a remote village of Camalig town in Albay on Saturday.
Superintendent Renato Bataller, Philippine National Police Bicol spokesman, on Sunday said the two suspected rebels died following a clash with patrolling soldiers at around 5:45 a.m. in Sitio (subvillage) Bulod, Barangay (village) Caguiba, Camalig.
He identified the fatalities as Fernando Mosteles Jr., 33, a resident of Barangay Caguiba; and Arboy Molina, 45, of Del Rosario, Jovellar, Albay.
He said there were at least 10 armed suspected New People’s Army rebels involved in the clash, the rest of whom fled and left behind their slain comrades.
Two empty magazines for M14 rifles, over two dozen empty shells of M14 and M16 rifles, and three backpacks containing personal belongings and “subversive” documents were recovered from the scene, he said.
