BEST POLICE STATIONS
THE Cebu City Police Office was awarded as the best police office in Central Visayas.
Talisay City Police Station was recognized as the best component city police station in the region together with the Danao City Police Station of Bohol province.
The recognition was given during 111th Police Service Anniversary Awards celebration last Monday at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Talisay City Police Chief Eddie Recamara said the award would boost the morale of his men as it recognized their efforts to keep peace and order.

FARM WORKER NABBED FOR MAN’S DEATH
POLICE arrested on Tuesday a 32-year-old farm caretaker accused of shooting a 26-year-old man in barangay Corte, Carmen town, northern Cebu.
Police arrested Francisco Bermejo at noon on Tuesday, two hours after the body of Eugene Jayson was found at a river bank.
Jayson together with a friend had gone to the river to fish. Jayson however stayed at the riverbank to gather coconuts.
When Bermejo learned about what Jayson was doing, police said that Bermejo allegedly shot Jayson who was hit in the back and head.
Bermejo didn’t resist arrest but he denied the allegations against him.
Police confiscated a .22 caliber gun with two bullets from Bermejo and detained him at the Carmen Police precinct pending the filing of charges against him./Reporter Rhea Ruth V. Rossell
MAN KILLS BOY OVER PHONE
A MAN shot dead a 17-year-old boy in a confrontation over a defective cell phone in barangay Ermita, Cebu City.
The assailant was identified as a certain Butsoy, who fled after shooting Clinton Scorpion past 4 p.m. last Tuesday.
Police said the suspect bought a cell phone from the boy but later found out that the item was defective.
Butsoy confronted the boy about the damaged cell phone and a heated argument errupted.
The suspect went home after the argument but returned later and shot the boy several times, said police.
The boy died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
COPS SEIZE GUN, ‘SHABU’ FROM MOTORIST
AN UNLICENSED gun and a plastic of suspected shabu were recovered from a man who was apprehended for traffic violations in barangay Casili, Mandaue City.
Rico Burlaos, 41, was apprehended by members of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) who were in the area looking for a rape suspect past 2 p.m. last Tuesday.
Police said while IDMB operatives were in the area, they saw Burlaos driving a motorcycle with no plate number. The driver also had no helmet on. Police flagged down Burlaos but he didn’t stop.
Police chased Burlaos and eventually cornered him. It was later found out that the driver didn’t have a driver’s license.
Police frisked the man found a .38 revolver with four bullets and a small heat-sealed sachet believed to contain shabu.
Burlaos was detained at the Subangdaku police station pending the filing of charges against him./CORRESPONDENT FE MARIE D. DUMABOC
