Today, Aug. 14, is the 146th birth anniversary of the late Fernando Calderon, a pioneer in obstetrics in the country. Also recognized as a leader in the field of gynecology, Calderon was the first Filipino director of the Philippine General Hospital in Manila. A former dean of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, he died on Feb. 7, 1948. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
