USJ-R cruises to third straight win with 89-72 victory over defending champion UC

The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars continued to lean on their incredible tenacity on the boards and the resurgence of Abulaiz Suliman as they posted their third straight win after defeating the reigning champions University of Cebu Webmasters, 89-72, in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.  men’s basketball tournament last night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Suliman finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and a block while Miguel Tabaloc added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Jaguars, who pounced on their opponent’s sudden lack of energy and focus to turn a six-point deficit in the third canto to a 62-55 lead heading to the final stretch.

UC, which fell to 1-2 (win-loss) got 20 points from Robinson Mohamad. The Webmasters  missed the numbers of  Brian Heruela, who was hampered by a knee injury and made just nine points.

In the juniors division, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles cruised to their third straight win with a 67-44 clobbering of the Don Bosco Greywolves.

The Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens also defeated the UC Baby Webmasters, 82-78, while the Cebu Eastern College Dragons recovered from their loss to the Eagles last Friday with an 89-33 shellacking of the USJ-R Baby Jaguars.
