JBC meeting will push through Friday, says SC spokesperson

MANILA, Philippines—The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will vote for its top three choices for Chief Justice on Friday at 11 a.m., a court spokesperson said Wednesday night.

“The JBC meeting which has earlier been canceled due to inclement weather is reset to Friday, August 10 at 11 a.m.,” acting high court Spokesperson Gleo Guerra said in a statement.

The JBC, which was supposed to hold deliberations Wednesday, will come out with a shortlist of candidates that would replace impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona as head of the Judiciary.

The JBC is constitutionally mandated to screen applicants for the judiciary and the Ombudsman.
