Tams nip Maroons
THE FAR EASTERN University gained a share of the lead in the standings as they escaped the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 73-70, in the 75th UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
FEU hiked its record up to 5-1 (win-loss), the same as the four-time defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles, who defeated the University of the East Red Warriors, 68-51, in their game late Saturday afternoon.
Former Rookie of the Year Terrence Romeo kept his coming-out party going as he once again led the way for the Tamaraws with a near triple-double performance of 24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
Every point from Romeo was needed especially with mediocre performance of former MVP RR Garcia, who tallied just five markers.
FEU did not manage a single field goal in the last eight minutes of the match and nearly bungled a 15-point lead in the third period.
The Maroons came within two, 69-71, after a three-pointer by Alvin Padilla, with 1:42 left. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
