/ 09:32 PM August 05, 2012

With the rainy season underway, the Caloocan City government has urged its residents to continue to be vigilant against emergencies.

In a statement, Mayor Enrico Echiverri said that the city has a comprehensive disaster management plan in place for the rainy season even as he urged residents to do their part.

“We have been asking schools and barangay officials to conduct regular drills in case emergency situations arise. I have also called on the barangays to intensify their information campaign on disasters to help prevent casualties,” he said.

Echiverri stressed that despite experiencing little flooding compared to neighbors Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela, the city considers disaster preparedness a priority.

To further validate the city’s disaster mitigation efforts, Echiverri said that they had invited the Department of Interior and Local Government to check the city’s program and equipment. Nathaniel R. Melican
