A 66-year-old man was killed while his live-in partner was wounded after they were waylaid by unidentified assailants in barangay Valencia, Carcar City, southern Cebu.
Segundo Dayanan died on the spot with a gunshot wound in the head. His partner Angelina Ibanan, 50, was in critical condition after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Police said the couple live in barangay Esperanza, Aloguinsan town, southwest Cebu.
Last Friday morning, Ibanan went to a friend’s house in Carcar to have her laundry. The woman opted to do the laundry in Carmelita Alforque’s house since the barangay has cleaner water, said police.
Later, Dayanan arrived in Alforque’s house to pick up Ibanan.
The couple was on their way home on a motorcycle when they were ambushed.
A wounded Ibanan was able to run and sought help from residents, said PO2 Rosendo Binondo, investigator of the Carcar City police.
Binondo said love triangle and personal grudges are being looked as possible motives in the attack.
Police said the victims had been living together for 10 years after the woman separated from her husband.
Police said Dayanan had filed a case of swindling, estafa and malversation of public documents against a person.
