FISHERMAN DROWNS OFF CORDOVA
A 39-YEAR-OLD fisherman was found floating in the shores off Cordova town, Mactan Island, Cebu.
Aljon Pugoy was found being dragged by an unmanned motorboat last Friday morning. A rope was looped around the man’s body and the other end tied to the banca.
Police said the fishermen would attach their bodies to the boat with a rope so that in case they fall, it would be easy for them to get on the boat.
Despite the rough seas, police said Pugoy still went fishing around 5 a.m. last Friday.
Police said it was possible that Pugoy fell to the sea after his boat was hit by big waves.
Teofilo Pacaldo, a fisherman, told police that he saw Pugoy’s unmanned banca moving and later saw Pugoy’s body at the rear of the banca being dragged.
Meanwhile, authorities were searching for a fisherman who fell off his banca while fishing in the shores off Malabayoc town.
Fidel Jumamil Cardosa and his twin brother Jumamil went fishing past 4 a.m. yesterday.
Jumamil told police that his brother fell when their boat was hit by big waves.
Jumamil went ashore and reported to the police when he could no longer find his brother./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL, CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA AND PIT INTERN ARGIE MAE D. LODOVICA
