Police arrest two moms in Mandaue

They said poverty forced them to engage in illegal activities.

Facing separate charges, Gladilyn Tamayo, 42, a native of barangay Mangachopoy, Bayogan City, and Rashida Dalimbang, 26, a native of Poblacion Midsayaf, North Cotabato, are detained at the Subangdaku police precinct in Mandaue City.

Tamayo, who presently lives in barangay Lower Tingub, Mandaue, was arrested last Wednesday night for alleged illegal recruitment.

One of the complainants, Gladys Monsales, 23, of barangay Tabok, Mandaue City, said Tamayo had offered her and her friends a job at Kenko Co. in MEPZ, Lapu-Lapu City.

Monsales introduced herself as Joy Orteza when they recruited them.

Monsales recounted that last Wednesday morning, Tamayo asked them to pay P680 for their urinalysis. The complainant said they became suspicious when they accidentally saw their resume in the shoulder bag of Tamayo.

Monsales said they went to a laboratory in Cebu City where they learned that a urinalysis only costs P40.

Monsales and her friends sought help from the police.

Police set up an entrapment operation and arrested Tamayo in a fastfood chain in Mandaue.

Police said Tamayo admitted she is not connected with a company in MEPZ.

Tamayo was only able to return P800 to the complainants. She said she spent the rest of the money to buy food for her family.

A charge of illegal recruitment was filed against Tamayo yesterday afternoon.

Also last Wednesday, Dalimbang, who temporarily lives in Hernan Cortes Street in barangay Subangdaku, was arrested for selling pornographic DVDs.

Police said Dalimbang openly sold pornographic materials in a building in Hernan Cortes Street.

Chief Insp. Ramil Morpos said Dalimbang was with her two children aged seven and 10 while selling pornographic DVDs.

Morpos said Dalimbang will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree 969 or printing and selling of pornographic materials.
