NegOr officials support gender and development

Local officials of Negros Oriental attended the gender sensitivity training of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) recently in Dumaguete City.

 
During the training, local officials gave their nod for the recall of their five percent annual budget allocation for gender and development (GAD) activities.

 
These local government officials have direct management of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS), a poverty-reduction program of the social welfare agency in the province.

 
Regional training assistant Maribeth Agbon-Caballda said a total of 82 local officials from 11 municipalities in Negros Oriental attended the training.

 
Deputy regional project manager Pamela Sullano said the training aimed to draft principles for the implementation of GAD activities for the beneficiary communities in Negros Oriental.
She said the training included workshops and interactive activities including role-play, talk show, news casting and radio show.

 
After the training, the participants came up with a gender and development plan for this year.

 
Kalahi-CIDSS is one of the three core poverty alleviation programs of DSWD, together with the local government units (LGUs).

 
It is designed to empower citizens by identifying their needs and implementing small scale community projects in partnership with the LGUs.

 
Kalahi-CIDSS in the Central Visayas has served 14 impoverished municipalities in Bohol and Siquijor since 2003.

 
This year, the project has expanded to 11 more municipalities in Negros Oriental, namely: Ayungon, Basay, Bindoy, Dauin, Jimalalud, Mabinay, Manjuyod, Pamplona, Santa Catalina, Vallehermoso and Zamboanguita.
