Jerry Guardo sticks with Team Rama
BARANGAY Sambag 1 captain Jerry Guardo said he is sticking it out with the Team Rama of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.
The barangay captain said he hopes his older brother, businessman Jonathan Guardo, who surprised everyone by announcing his support for former rival Rep. Tomas Osmeña, would respect that decision.
“It will be very awkward for me to jump ship. I believe in Mike Rama, his leadership and platform of government,” said Jerry.
Mayor Rama said that Jerry came to him last Monday to reaffirm support for Team Rama in light of his brother’s declaration of support for Osmeña during Osmeña’s 64th birthday party on July 26.
“I have high trust in Jerry,” Rama said.
Jerry said that he spoke to Mayor Rama of his brother’s political decision because he did not want the mayor and other Team Rama members to doubt him.
His commitment to Rama was further strengthened when he agreed to join Team Rama’s north district slate for city councilor.
Elder brother Jonathan earlier said that since the filing of certificates of candidacies is still in October, many things could still happen with his brother’s decision.
He said he was not convinced that Jerry was already decided about joining the Team Rama slate.
Jerry said in an interview yesterday that his brother’s declaration of support for Osmeña came as a surprise.
Jonathan, he said, never discussed politics with him during the last two years until today.
“Ako gi respetohan ang akong maguwang (when he declared support for Osmeña) and I hope he will also respect my decision, my support for Team Rama,” said the younger Guardo.
Jonathan ran against Osmeña in a bitter election contest for the south district congressional race in 2010.
Next year, Osmeña will challenge the reelection bid of Mayor Rama.
