Gov’t liquidated P2.5B in intel funds in 2010—COA

MANILA, Philippines – The total intelligence funds liquidated by the entire government machinery in 2010 is P2.5 billion, the Commission on Audit said Thursday at the resumption of the Senate investigation into the alleged anomalous use of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office funds.

Testifying before the blue ribbon committee, COA Commissioner Heidi Mendoza said the P2.5 billion was the amount liquidated by the national government, local government units, government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) based on the certifications of advice that were submitted to the commission.

The breakdown: National Government, P957.1 billion; LGUs, P1.3 billion; GOCCS, P533.4 million, including $108, 190 from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor).

Mendoza made the disclosure after Senator Franklin Drilon asked for the amount of intelligence funds submitted to COA on an annual basis, for which Mendoza came up with the figures for 2010 based on the commission’s records.
