COMPLAINTS of low water pressure to no water at all at the new Mandaue City Public market has prompted the City Council to ask the Metropolitan Cebu Water District to increase the water volume in the market.
This developed after the City Council approved a resolution during Wednesday’s session to make the request to the MCWD.
Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, chairman of the market committee, said he sponsored the resolution after receiving several complaints from market stallholders of the shortage of water supply in the market due to the low water pressure.
“With this problem, the City Council is calling the attention of the MCWD through its general manager Armando Paredes to increase the water volume at the new market to provide enough water supply to satisfy all its paying market vendors,” said the resolution./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
PIGS SEIZED
The Mandaue City Meat Monitoring Task Force led by the City Veterinarian confiscated three newly slaughtered pigs during a surprise inspection last Thursday at the old slaughterhouse in barangay Mantuyong, Mandue City.
The three pigs, which each weighed 250 kilos, were quickly thrown in an adjacent grassy field near the area as the men, who slaughtered the pig fled, said City Veterinarian Daisy Penetrante.
Penetrante said that it was illegal to slaughter pigs anywhere in the city since all meat that would be sold to consumers should be slaughtered at the city abattoir where City Veterinarian could inspect it before it could be sold in the market.
A case of violating the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines would be filed against the owner. The Code requires the inspection of meat by the City Veterinarian’s Office before it will be sold to the market./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
