IBF finally installs Casimero as regular champ

/ 08:41 AM July 21, 2012

THE long wait is finally over for boxing champion Johnriel Casimero. This after the International Boxing Fedefation (IBF) has declared the Filipino interim ruler as the regular IBF Jr. flyweight champion of the world.

Boxing promoter Sammy Gello-ani relayed the good news to the media yesterday. Gello-ani said the IBF came into this decision of stripping regular champion Ulises Solis of his title after he has been declared by his doctor unfit to train for the next 3 to 4 months.

This means Solis won’t be able to defend his regular title on or before October 30 which is the date mandated by the IBF for him to defend his crown.

The letter from IBF Championship chairman Lindsey Tucker stated that based on the information given by Solis’ doctor, it is the IBF’s determination that Solis will be unable to defend the IBF Jr. flyweight title on or before Oct. 30, 2012. Therefore, effective immediately the IBF declares that Johnriel Casimero the new IBF Jr. Flyweight champion.

Solis broke his jaw when he was involved in a street altercation against fellow boxer Saul Alvarez last year. He had until October to fight Casimero.

The 22 year-old Casimero (16W-2L, 10 KOs) won the interim title last February when he stopped Argentina’s Luis Alberto Lazarte in the 10th round in a fight held in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
