Baby boy found left in trash bin

A newborn  boy was left near a garbage drum along M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City.

The boy, who was wrapped in cloth,  was found by garbage collector Mary Brehilda past midnight.

“Abi man namo og iring, giwaling nako, pagwaling nako bata man nihilak (I thought it was a cat but when I checked, the baby cried,)”said the sanitation worker.

A security guard of nearby establishment said  a woman was seen hurriedly leaving the area where the baby was found. The guard said the woman seemed to be crying when she left.

Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation brought the child to Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Dr. Catherine Echevari of CCMC said the baby weighs 2.1 kilos and was  in good health.

In a GMA-7 report, Echevari said the baby had to be given antibiotics as a precautionary measure since he was found near a trash bin.  The baby will be brought to social workers once discharged from the hospital./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
