Man stabbed dead in QC

MANILA, Philippines— A man was stabbed to death by a neighbor Sunday night in Quezon City allegedly after a fistfight over the teasing of the victim’s teenaged grandniece by the suspect’s son.

The victim, Danilo Davocol, 48, died due to multiple stab wounds even before reaching the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) where he was rushed to by neighbors.

The suspect, Miracol Tongha, a carpenter, was arrested after a responding village watchman shot him during the stabbing incident. He is confined at the EAMC where he was treated for gunshot wounds on both thighs.

Case investigator Police Officer 3 Jaime Jimena of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the incident happened at 6 p.m. in Area A in Sitio (sub-village) Talanay, Barangay (village) Batasan Hills.

Both the suspect and the victim were residents of the area, police said.

Erik Bactol, the barangay watchman who shot Tongha in his tracks, was Davocol’s nephew but Jimena said the watchman has not yet surfaced after the incident.

Investigation showed that Davocol apparently got angry at Tongha’s son, Nicanor, for teasing his 13-year-old grandniece by placing an arm around the shoulder of the girl.

The grandniece happened to be the daughter of Bactol, Jimena said.

An argument erupted between Nicanor and Davocol, which led to a fistfight between the two men.

A neighbor, Noel Tan, tried to break up the fight but Tonghe appeared on the scene with a kitchen knife.

Bactol, seeing his uncle being stabbed by Tonghe, rushed home to get his gun, Jimena said.

He said Bactol fired a warning shot but Tonghe continued attacking his uncle, prompting the watchman to shoot the suspect’s thigh.

Police added that Tonghe reportedly tried to attack Bactol but was stopped in his tracks after his other thigh was also shot.
