IED found in Davao City engineer’s office

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—An improvised explosive device was recovered inside a government office here Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Based on a report, the Davao City Police Office said that the device was found concealed in the ceiling of the City Engineer’s Office at around 8 a.m., following a call by an employee to the 911, the city’s emergency response system.

Senior Police Officer 3 Jimmy Libranza of the DCPO’s Explosives and Ordnance Division said the bomb was fashioned from a bottle of unleaded gasoline, a sponge, a detonating device and a cell phone supposedly as a trigger mechanism.

“It was possible that the intent was to create a fire,” Libranza said.

He said they were still conducting follow up investigation and that no suspect had been identified so far.
