Barangays get day care centers

THE Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), through the Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (DACF), recently turned over three  new  day care centers to  three barangays in Cebu province.

The  buildings will benefit more than 200 pupils in barangay Dumalerio in San Francisco, barangay Langub in Asturias, and Bulacao in Talisay City.

These were turned over to barangay Damalerio on June 14, barangay Bulacao last July 3 and barangay Langub last July 10.

The initiative is part of RAFI-DACF’s commitment to help children become successful individuals and responsible citizens.

The design of the day care centers was patterned after  standards set by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Each building sits on a 150-sq.m. lot and is made of high-quality materials.

It  has  child-friendly features, such as low windows, well-lighted and well-ventilated classrooms and child-size bathroom toilets and sinks.

The classroom furniture and layout are flexible to allow the teacher to make changes depending on the activities for the day.

There is also enough space on the walls for teachers to display the children’s work.

DACF provided the construction materials and furniture while the local government units of San Francisco, Talisay, and Asturias gave counterpart funds for the land and manpower needs.

DACF also provided funding for the playground. Facilities there are made by the community from indigenous and recycled materials, such as bamboo, nipa and old tires.

Old electric poles from the Visayan Electric Company and rubber tubing from Tsuneishi were also used.

Sand and pebbles cover the ground to minimize injuries when children fall.
