The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will launch next week a system that will provide motorists with real-time traffic information.
Dubbed as the Metro Manila Traffic Navigator, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the digitized traffic information system would motorists to view, through their cell phones, the traffic conditions on major roads in Metro Manila which are under the agency’s control.
“They would be able to see which areas they should avoid; they will be be provided with information like which areas have light, moderate and heavy traffic. They will get real-time updates on traffic news,” Tolentino added.
According to Tolentino, the project will be launched on July 18.
The interactive navigator will allow motorists to at least prepare for heavy traffic or take alternate routes or rearrange their schedules if necessary, he said.
Tolentino explained that the goal of the project was to provide the public with an accurate and efficient method of delivering traffic information and other road-related data which could be utilized to achieve safe, convenient and informed travel within the metropolis.
Tolentinpo said he hoped that the system would also provide the
government as well as the academe with sufficient data that could be used in formulating traffic policies and schemes which might help improve the daily traffic situation in Metro Manila.
