Constitutional amendments must focus only on economic revisions—Senator Sotto
MANILA, Philippines—Amending the Constitution is like opening a Pandora’s Box, that’s why many are against it, said Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III early Thursday in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
“If we open the Constitution to changes, you can do all things in it. Change the term limit of public officials, have the President re-elected, shift to Parliamentary form of government, so many are opposing the Cha-Cha (Charter Change).”
He said it would be better if both houses—Congress and Senate—could explain it well to the people that the amendments would only focus on economic revisions.
Sotto suggested a survey or a plebiscite to determine the pulse of the people if they want to amend the Constitution.
