Man hurt as delivery truck rams Center Island

/ 10:42 PM July 09, 2012

A 22-wheel truck slammed into the center island on Osmeña Highway in Makati City around 11 a.m. Monday, its trailer skidding sideways to occupy the busy thoroughfare’s three lanes and snarling midday traffic that resulted in a gridlock which extended as far as Magallanes.

“The driver alleged that the metal bar which linked the trailer to the truck broke which led to the crash,” case investigator PO2 Cesar Bueno said.

The driver’s helper suffered leg injuries and was taken to Makati Medical Center.

The truck carried empty bottles of a popular brand of brandy and dozens of cases of beer. Cleanup personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Barangay San Antonio swept the area clear of broken glass before allowing vehicles to use the road.
