4 men nabbed for attack on ex-Muntinlupa mayor

Four men are now facing charges of attempted homicide and serious physical injuries after beating up and stabbing a 73-year-old former mayor of Muntinlupa City inside his sprawling compound on the South Luzon Expressway. The police said Edito Lobreza, Marleo Sales, Tirso Retom and Kris Talapyan roughed up former Muntinlupa Mayor Santiago Carlos Jr. on Saturday night after he warned them against making too much noise while having a celebration inside the Uding Compound on East Service Road in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. “Carlos was helping in securing the Uding Compound, owned by his family, when the incident happened. He spotted the four outside one of the houses for rent there, apparently celebrating, around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night,” Chief Insp. Giovanni Martinez, head of the intelligence unit of the Muntinlupa police, said in a telephone interview. Martinez said that Carlos reprimanded the four for being noisy, despite a curfew they implement inside the compound. “It was then when the incident took place. The four misunderstood Carlos’ reprimand and began to beat  him,” Martinez said. While beating him up, Retom took out a fan knife and attempted to stab Carlos. “The former mayor tried to fend off the attack, and in the process, he was stabbed in his left hand,” Martinez said. The four escaped although they were later arrested by the police. Nathaniel R. Melican
