MANILA, Philippines – A Philippine National Railways train broke down in Manila due to technical problems, a Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said on Monday.

The report quoted PNR spokesman Paul de Quiros as saying that the Alabang-bound train had been experiencing technical problems while plying its Sta. Mesa route and eventually came to a halt upon reaching Pandacan Station.

De Quiros said that passengers were told to disembark after smoke was seen rising from underneath the train.

PNR technicians have been deployed to the area to repair the defective train, the report said.
