DILG warns vs unauthorized solicitations using Mabilog’s name

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued a warning to the public and its personnel against the supposed unauthorized use of Undersecretary for Public Safety Jed Patrick Mabilog’s names in fraudulent transactions and solicitation activities.

“Reports received by the Department indicate that certain persons have been falsely representing themselves as being connected with the Office of the Undersecretary for Public Safety without proper authority,” the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

It did not immediately provide context as to the alleged misuse of Mabilog’s name.

“The DILG emphasizes that neither the Department nor any of its officials authorizes any individual or group to solicit money, donations, favors, endorsements, financial assistance, or facilitation of transactions on their behalf,” it added.

“The Office neither engages in nor tolerates any such fraudulent schemes,” the DILG stressed.

It also warned that the unauthorized and fraudulent use of Mabilog or the Office of the Undersecretary for Public Safety’s names may lead to administrative, civil and criminal charges.

Mabilog was appointed DILG undersecretary earlier this May.

He was previously accused by former President Rodrigo Duterte of being involved in the illegal drug trade, prompting him to leave the country in 2017.

That same year, he was dismissed from his position by the Office of the Ombudsman for failing to explain his allegedly questionable wealth worth P8.9 million from 2012 to 2013.

Mabilog returned to the Philippines in 2024 to clear his name.

He was granted a pardon by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in 2025. /mr
