PNP: 16% drop in crimes due to ‘institutionalized reforms’

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. attributed the decrease in the crime incidents they recorded to the agency’s “institutionalized reforms.”
Focus crime incidents decreased by 16 percent from 4,495 cases from Feb. 22 to April 5; down to 3,776 cases from April 6 to May 18, according to Nartatez in a statement on Tuesday.
“This 16-percent drop is not a temporary dip but the direct result of institutionalized reforms, data-driven deployments, and strict resource accountability,” Nartatez maintained.

“We are ensuring sustainability by maximizing our logistics so that funding directly serves police operations and keeps boots on the ground where they are needed most,” he added.
The top cop further noted that police units have been tasked to speed up response operations, increase patrol presence and engage more with the community while maintaining discipline within their own ranks.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement later on Tuesday, the PNP said its Anti-Cybercrime Group arrested 32 individuals for online libel cases from Jan. 1 to May 15.
“These efforts are part of the continuing campaign against violations of Section 4(c)(4) of Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012,” the PNP explained. /das
