Eastern Samar earthquake injures child

TACLOBAN CITY — A child was injured after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off San Julian, Eastern Samar at 2:09 p.m. on Monday, May 4, local authorities said.
The child from Dolores town was reportedly struck by a falling religious statue during strong shaking in Barangay Hilabaan. The victim, whose age was not immediately known, was immediately brought to the town proper for medical treatment.

The quake also caused damage in several areas, including cracks in structures at the local fish port and disruption of services as residents rushed out of buildings for safety.
Authorities are still assessing the extent of damage across Eastern Samar and nearby areas, as aftershocks remain possible. /mcm
