DepEd expands summer remediation for struggling learners

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education will roll out expanded summer remediation programs from May 6 to June 3 to help learners recover foundational skills and return to grade-level readiness.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the programs aim to ensure that no learner is left behind.
“We must ensure that every learner receives adequate support. DepEd is here to guide our students in improving their knowledge,” Angara said in Filipino.
At the center of the initiative is the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning Program, which aims to strengthen the reading and mathematics skills of about 3.7 million incoming Grade 2 to 11 learners.
The Senior High School Remediation Program will also support around 2.1 million incoming Grade 12 learners in English, Filipino and mathematics.
DepEd said the Summer Academic Remedial Program will provide targeted assistance to around 141,000 learners across all grade levels who did not meet required standards in one or two learning areas.
Angara said DepEd will mobilize around 607,000 teachers and volunteer tutors nationwide.
The summer programs will also include teaching and learning resources, incentives for educators, vision and hearing screenings, and free meals.
“We call on parents and teachers to unite in this important mission. Our cooperation will serve as a strong foundation for the successful return to school of our youth,” Angara said in Filipino.
