Expanded sources boost Manila Water’s 24/7 summer supply

Manila Water Company assures its customers of continuous and reliable water service across the East Zone this summer, supported by sustained investments in new and diversified water sources that strengthen system capacity during periods of high demand.

With summer conditions coinciding with increased household water use during the Holy Week break, Manila Water confirms that its production and distribution systems are well prepared to meet customer needs. This readiness is driven by the availability of additional raw water from newly developed sources that supplement the existing supply and enhance overall system resilience.

A key component of Manila Water’s expanded supply portfolio is the Wawa–Calawis Water Supply System, which improves water availability for eastern Metro Manila and Rizal Province.

At its core is the Calawis Water Treatment Plant, with a capacity of up to 80 million liters per day (MLD), supported by the Upper Wawa Dam and Tayabasan Weir operated exclusively by WawaJVco for Manila Water’s bulk supply.

These facilities strengthen source diversification and reduce reliance on Angat Dam, especially during dry months and peak demand. This effort is further reinforced by the 110 MLD Cardona Water Treatment Plant, which draws water from the central portion of Laguna Lake and enhances overall supply resilience.

Manila Water’s continued investment in water source development and supply augmentation projects forms part of its long-term strategy to ensure water security, especially during high-demand seasons such as Holy Week and summer.

The company also continues to implement operational enhancements, including treatment plant upgrades, system optimization initiatives, and sustained leak detection and repair activities aimed at minimizing water losses and improving network efficiency.

To ensure uninterrupted operations during the Holy Week holidays, Manila Water maintained full functionality of critical facilities across its service areas.

Treatment plants and pumping stations will continue to operate as scheduled, while technical personnel will be on standby throughout the holiday period to promptly respond to emergency leaks and other service-related concerns, ensuring minimal disruption to customers.
