CASINO EMPLOYEE STABBED DEAD

A 43-YEAR-OLD worker of Casino Filipino was stabbed dead in a benefit dance in barangay Naylon, Bogo City, northern Cebu.

Carlito Varga was in the dance floor when he was stabbed in the back at dawn yesterday.

Police said a witness identified Reden Butal, 24, as the assailant.

PO3 Allan Dosdos of the Bogo City police said Butal was about to escape when he was arrested in his house around 7 a.m. yesterday.

Butal denied stabbing Varga.  Police said a jacket with bloodstains and a knife were recovered during the arrest.

Appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect, said police./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC

BLOODY BASKETBALL GAME

A BARANGAY councilor and a tanod were wounded after a basketball game turned bloody in barangay Cambuhawe, Balamban town, Cebu.

Cambuhawe barangay councilor Lubwig Taborada, 25, was stabbed in the abdomen by Floro Blanco, 54, a tanod in the barangay.

Blanco was also injured after he was shot by fellow tanod Oliver Oleverio, who defended Taborada, said police.

Oleverio and Taborada are relatives.

PO2 Godofredo Dumdum, desk officer of Balamban police, said Taborada and fellow barangay councilor Eric Roxas were officiating a basketball game as referees when trouble broke out.

Blanco confronted Taborada and accused him of favoring the other team. A heated argument ensued.

The argument escalated when Blanco drew a bladed weapon and stabbed Taborada.

Upon seeing the attack, Oleverio shot Blanco in the head and fled.

Taborada and Blanco were brought to a hospital in Cebu City. An ongoing pursuit operation was ordered to arrest Oleverio, said police./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC

BUS RUNS OVER BOY

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was killed after a passenger bus ran over him in barangay Granada, Boljoon town, southern Cebu.

Ritchie Arante was crossing the road last Friday night when he was hit by a Ceres bus driven by Glory Cris Gapol, 34, a native of Siquijor.

Police said that when the boy crossed, his friends shouted to warn him of an incoming bus.

Police said the boy didn’t hear his friends because he had a headset on.

Gapol surrendered to the police after the accident.
