Man stabs boy inside Camarines Norte school

NAGA CITY, Philippines—A 12-year-old student was attacked by a knife-wielding man during a town activity held in a public school in Santa Elena, Camarines Norte, the Philippine National Police said Friday.

Senior Supt. Jose Capinpin, the newly-installed director of the PNP in Camarines Norte, said suspect Leopoldo Dimaandal, 36, for no apparent reason stabbed the boy, whose name was withheld in light of his age.

Capinpin said the student was watching a presentation at the Amparo Elementary School in Barangay Kabuluan at around about 9 p.m. Thursday when he was attacked by Dimaandal.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was rushed to the Santa Elena municipal health office for treatment.

Dimaandal was drunk and was arrested for violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act of 1992, said Senior Insp. Timothy Arciso, Santa Elena police chief, in a phone interview Friday.

Arciso clarified that the incident occurred outside of school hours and that the presentation was part of the celebration of the 43rd founding anniversary of Santa Elena and as such was not a school activity.
