The Lapu-Lapu City prosecutor’s office downgraded to sexual assault the rape charges filed by the police against one of the two Koreans accused of raping two Japanese women.
Jong Duk Lee whose case has been downgraded may post bail today for his temporary liberty.
Lee and Carl Park were already committed to the Lapu-Lapu City jail yesterday afternoon.
Based on the affidavit of one of the two victims, Lee only tried to touch her private part when he was drunk inside the motel in Lapu-Lapu City.
Meanwhile, a representative of the Japanese consular office yesterday visited the office of the CIDG to manifest the Japanese government’s support the victims of sexual abuse.
Yoshiaki Hata, in an interview said the Japanese government will provide assistance to their nationals who are victims in the case.
Senior Supt. Jose Pante, chief of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-7) said there might had been a miscommunication between his office and the Japanese consulate regarding the case.
“We thought they were not providing assistance to the victims,” Pante said.
Earlier, Lee insisted that no rape happened inside the motel and that he didn’t even touch her body.
Lee said he even took pity on the two Japanese since they were already very drunk.
In an interview, Lee said he never committed rape.
He said they invited them to meet at SM Cebu and to go to Tops in Busay.
He said they also drank alcohol in a bar in General Maxilum Avenue until until they got drunk.
When they got drunk, both Japanese were sleepy already.
For their safety, Lee said they decided to bring them to a motel in Lapu-Lapu for them to rest.
Lee said on Saturday morning, he flew to Manila for a business transaction and went back the same day.
After he learned that Park was already arrested, he went to the CIDG-7 office to visit him on Monday evening.
Instead, Lee said he got arrested after the two Japanese women positively identified him as Park’s companion.
Park refused to talk to the media about the case.
