Sara Duterte slams use of son’s photo in online disinformation

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday denounced online posts using her son’s photograph to spread false information to the public.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Vice President, Duterte was made aware of online posts containing a photo of her son telling people to “take care” of his mother.

Duterte through the statement clarified that she has never used any of her children to advance her own interests.

“I condemn the unauthorized use of my minor son’s photograph to spread false information,” said Duterte.

“Hindi ko kailanman ginamit ang aking mga anak sa pagsulong ng aking interes, at mahigpit ko silang pinagbabawalan na makisali sa mga usaping politika sa labas ng aming tahanan,” she added.

(I have never used my children to advance my interests, and I strictly forbid them from participating in political matters outside our home.)

She then called on the public not to allow children to be used in misinformation, especially in politics

“Ang proteksyon ng kabataan—anak ko man o hindi—ay responsibilidad nating lahat,” she said.
