THOUGH he’s part of an illustrious clan in Cebu politics, Mariano “Mimo” Osmeña said he won’t be running for any position in the 2013 election.
During yesterday’s 888 News Forum, Mimo said while his father, former Cebu governor Lito Osmeña, would like him to serve in government, he is contented doing public service through his radio program “Sugbo, Labaw Kanatong Tanan.”
“I’m not ready. I haven’t established a face. I’m still considered unknown. The radio program is becoming really popular and I enjoy it,” he said.
Mimo said while he’s not closing the door to politics, 2013 is “too close.”
“I’m looking at what I can do in the meantime without giving up the workload that I have… the family corporation,” he said.
Mimo said he even considered the province as a potential springboard for his run for public office, but he’s a registered voter in barangay Malubog in Cebu City’s north district.
If ever he decides to run, Mimo said it would be for a local position.
”My personal interest is not legislative, so Congress and the Senate is not likely. If at all, it would be local politics. If you’d look at the title of my show, Sugbo, Labaw Kanatong Tanan, Cebu is a priority whether province or the city,” he said.
Mimo, who launched the radio program a few months ago, dismissed speculations that he would run for the 1st congressional district of Cebu to be vacated by Rep. Eduardo Gullas next year.
Mimo’s father, Lito earlier floated the possibility that his son would run in the 2013 elections in any of four posts- as a senator, congressman, governor or mayor. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
