The Alaska Aces will play the role of a spoiler when they take on the Air21 Express in today’s first game of the 37th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Aces were the first team to be booted out, languishing at the bottom of the standings with a dismal 1-7 (win-loss) record.

The Aces, who have lost their last six games, have struggled in the season-ending tournament while adjusting to another coaching change.

Alaska is on its first conference with head coach Luigi Trillo, who filled the void vacated by Joel Banal.

Banal resigned after handling the Aces for two conferences. Banal was named Alaska head coach following the last season’s resignation of long-time Alaska head coach Tim Cone, who is now with B-Meg Llamados.

Although already out of the running, the Aces would definitely try to end their campaign on a decent note.

The Express need a win to keep alive their flickering playoff aspirations. Air21 is currently at eighth spot with two wins and five losses, needing to sweep its last two games to stay in contention.

The main game will feature rematch of last conference’s championship with the Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters facing off the B-Meg Llamados.
