Teacher killed in Ormoc road mishap

TACLOBAN CITY — A public school teacher was killed Tuesday morning, March 3, when a truck allegedly lost control and struck the motorcycle she was riding in Ormoc City, Leyte.
The crash occurred at 7:10 a.m. near the Leyte V Electric Cooperative office in Barangay San Pablo, according to local police and eyewitnesses.
The teacher was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her brother when a Canter truck, reportedly speeding, collided with their vehicle before hitting another car.

The 66-year-old truck driver from Barangay Bayog, Ormoc City, is now in police custody.
However, the teacher was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital, while her brother suffered minor injuries.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Ormoc has issued a show-cause order against the driver and recommended revoking his license.
“Reckless driving that results in serious physical injury or homicide is automatic,” LTO-Ormoc Chief Manny Sevilla said in a radio interview. “We will recommend revocation because the victim died. Rest assured, we will closely monitor this case.”
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. /mcm
