Second missing teen found dead off Calico-an Island in Eastern Samar

TACLOBAN CITY — Rescuers recovered the body of the second missing teenager, Kyle Baguinon, Monday afternoon, March 2, along the coastline of Calico-an Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, days after he and another minor were swept away by powerful waves.

The 1:48 p.m. recovery at Sungi Point in Barangay Sulangan was later confirmed by his family, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Guiuan.

Earlier that same morning, authorities had already retrieved the body of the first victim, Irish Christian Quesada.

The two minors went missing on Feb. 28 after strong waves carried them away while swimming near the surfing zone of Calico-an Island, a coastal destination known for heavy swells and strong undercurrents.

Local responders and volunteers immediately launched search and retrieval operations, combing the shoreline and nearby waters until both bodies were recovered. /das
