A man surrendered to the police shortly after stabbing dead his neighbor in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, at dawn yesterday.
Jonry Yaun, 28, said he was forced to stab Jason Armada, 30, when the victim punched him in the face for no apparent reason.
Before the scuffle, Yaun said he was drinking with his grandfather in a basketball court where Armada was also drinking with some friends in a separate table.
Yaun said Armada’s friends tried to bring him home when he became drunk.
Yaun said Armada suddenly stood up from their table and punched him in the face.
A fistfight ensued between the two men.
Yaun said Armada chased him with a kitchen knife.
Yaun said he was able to grab the kitchen knife from Armada and stabbed him several times.
“Murag nayawaan nako, wa koy sala nga gisumbag unya iya pa kong gigukod ug kutsilyo mao tong pagkailog nako wa nako kabalalo kapila nko siya dunggaba (I didn’t know what entered my mind when he punched me even if I did nothing wrong to him. He chased me with a knife. I didn’t know how many times I stabbed him when I was able to grab the knife),” Yaun said in an interview.
Yaun said he immediately went to the nearby Subangdaku police station to surrender.
