4 brgy workers flunk drug test
FOUR workers of the Basak San Nicolas in Cebu City tested positive in screening tests for illegal drug use during a random inspection yesterday.
If their urine samples still test positive in confirmatory tests, they will face dismissal, said Joey Herrera, head of the City Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap).
Eight other barangay workers were previously terminated after confirmatory results of their Feb. 4 random drug test showed traces of drugs in their urine.
Yesterday’s drug random tests were conducted upon the request of Basak San Nicolas barangay captain George Rama to check reports about drug use among barangay workers.
Herrera said Cosap has already conducted random tests in barangays Tejero and Luz.
Two workers of Tejero barangay hall were also fired for testing positive of drug use on May 30.

Three tanods were attending a court hearing.
The test results would be subjected to confirmatory testing at the PNP Crime laboratory.
Herrera said Cosap still has pending requests from five more barangays for the drug testing of their employees.
Aside from working with the different barangays, Herrera said Cosap is also coordinating with Juvy Morellos, head of City Hall’s Human Resource Management Office, for the random drug test of City Hall employees.
