Loose guns a top concern for police

/ 06:55 AM July 06, 2011

ILLEGAL firearms possession is among the top concerns of the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) as shown by the confiscation of 150 firearms in the first quarter of this year.

In yesterday’s 888 news forum, Chief Supt. Ager Ontog, PRO-7 chief, said this doesn’t include the confiscation of P5-million worth of firearms from a Danao City factory that had yet to renew their license.

Ontog said they are intensifying implementation of the National Firearms Control Program through random weapons check operations and mobile checkpoints.
He called on civilians bearing firearms to register their weapons.

Ontog said they are continually monitoring the number of registered and unregistered firearms in government agencies along with those surrendered to the Armed Forces.

Ontog said additional 40-50 police officers will be deployed in the cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu, which were identified as areas with rising crime incidence in the province./Correspondent Patricia Andrea Pateña
