4 suspected criminals slain in shootout with Caloocan police

Four suspected criminals were killed in a shootout in Caloocan City Tuesday morning, a report on 990AM said.

MANILA, Philippines – Four suspected criminals were killed in a shootout in Caloocan City Tuesday morning, a report on 990AM said.

Chief Inspector Rodrigo Santos identified one of the suspects as Michael Casiguran of Bagong Nayon Caloocan City, the report said.

The report said that the anti-carnaping unit of Caloocan police flagged down a 799 taxi with plate number TYU560 along their Boni Serrano checkpoint area but instead of stopping, the taxi sped away.

The police chased the suspects who were cornered on 12th Avenue after the taxi they were riding bogged down, forcing them to fire at the pursuing lawmen, the report said.

Two of the armed men died on the spot while two others who had been wounded and brought to Diosdado Macapagal Hospital were declared dead on arrival, said Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., spokesman of the Philippine National Police.

Another cohort of the criminals managed to escape, Cruz said.

Recovered from the scene were three caliber .38 revolvers, one caliber .9mm pistol, six cartridge cases for caliber .38 revolvers, and five .9mm cartridge cases.

Cruz said that investigation on the shooting incident was underway.
