PNP wants recruits with background in computer science

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is looking for recruits with a background in computer science.

The law enforcement agency is seeking 6,589 recruits this year for its attrition quota, or the number of recruits it needs to maintain manpower across its units.

“The PNP… now actively seeks professionals with backgrounds in computer science, engineering, information systems, and data analytics to strengthen the institution’s cybercrime units, digital investigations, and command center operations,” Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We are looking for individuals who can contribute to our growing efforts in cybercrime investigation, digital forensics, and information and communications technology,” he added.

The recruitment of 6,859 was approved through National Police Commission (Napolcom) Resolution No. 2025-0580 issued on Oct. 1.

The resolution gives priority to candidates with experience in information and communications technology to handle equipment like closed-circuit television, drones, and body-worn cameras.

PNP public information chief Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño previously said applicants could submit their requirements either by dropping them off at their local police station or online.

The requirements are the following:

  • Philippine Statistics Authority-issued birth certificate of the applicant
  • College diploma and transcript of record with a general weighted average
  • Certificate of good moral character from the school most recently attended
  • Eligibility certificate and report of rating from the National Police Commission, the Civil Service Commission, or the Professional Regulation Commission

Tuaño added that applicants must be Filipino citizens and pass the body mass index, psychological, drug, and physical tests administered by the PNP. /mcm
