MAN NABBED FOR MASIAO

POLICE arrested a man involved in illegal numbers games locally known as masiao.

Police said 2,500 masiao tip sheets were recovered from Lowell Villanueva of barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.

Insp. Ramil Morpos, chief of the Subangdaku police station, said they have been monitoring Villanueva due to reports that he was a distributing masiao tip sheets in northern towns and cities of Cebu.

The man was arrested while he was about to board a bus at the North Bus Terminal in Mandaue City around 4 a.m. yesterday.

Charges for violation of the Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287 will be filed against Villanueva today, said Morpos.

If proven guilty, the man will be imprisoned for at least six years, said police./CORRESPONDENT FE MARIE D. DUMABOC

FIRE RAZES RESTO BAR

A RESTO bar was razed while two other establishments were damaged by a fire in barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.

The fire broke out at 6:28 a.m. yesterday and was contained a few minutes later, said Senior Supt. Aderson Comar, fire marshal of the Cebu City Fire Department.

Damage was pegged at P45,000.

The fire started at Mictest restobar owned by Jojo Salazar.

COPS UNDERgo SHOOTING TEST

TO test their marksmanship skills, members of the Lapu-Lapu City police underwent firearms proficiency test that started yesterday.

The test will determine who will be the first to get service firearms, said Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO).

LLCPO has 300 organic personnel excluding field trainee personnel.

The first batch, composed of 150 policemen started the gun training yesterday while the next batch will begin next week.
