Lapu-Lapu police to distribute ‘crime deterrent’ stickers

THE Lapu-Lapu police will be distributing stickers bearing the hotline numbers of the various police stations in the city.

Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO), said the stickers will serve as control stickers to be distributed today during a checkpoint to motorcycles, tricycle and trisikad drivers.

In a press conference yesterday, Lawas said the stickers will be given only to vehicles with complete registration.

Lawas said possessing the stickers will allow the public to have an easy access to police stations in case of emergency.

He said text messages or calls will be received in  the 341-1311 and 0917-3067147 hotlines.

“We will verify all the texts and calls. But if it is a prank, it will not give us the reason to stop, we already anticipate it, that’s part of our duties,” Lawas said.

The City Tactical Operation Center will be manned by two policemen who will be on-duty 24/7.

Once the center receives a  report, it will contact the nearest police station or mobile patrol group to respond to the alarm.

Lawas said the control stickers will help minimize incidents where the culprits use motorcycles.

During checkpoints, police will ask for the registration of the motorcycle including official receipt (OR) and certificate receipt (CR). The OR and CR will be registered in the LLCPO database and control sticker with its control number on it will be put on the motorcycle’s body.

Lawas said the project is an LTO-accredited program of PNP which was also ordered by the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).

Lapu-Lapu was chosen as the pilot area.

“The sticker is non-transferable. A motorist whose motorcycle has a control sticker will only be asked to present his driver’s license,” said Lawas.

The distribution of control stickers came after Francisco Alser, 29, an employee of the Lapu-Lapu City Hall, was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding robbers last Monday morning./CORRESPONDENTS FE MARIE D. DUMABOC AND NORMAN V. MENDOZA
