MANILA, Philippines – The municipality of Glan in Sarangani has been placed under a state of calamity by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council following severe flashfloods that affected 20 villages, the Sarangani Information Office said Wednesday.

“Mayor James Victor Yap presided over the MDRRMC [and] he approved the resolution declaring the state of calamity,” it said.

With four barangays “greatly” affected by the flashfloods, Yap said the declaration was prompted by reports that 16 more villages were affected although assessment was still ongoing for the rest of the villages.
