MANILA, Philippines—Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio did not attend the traditional Vin D’ Honneur in Malacañang.
Supreme Court acting spokesperson Gleo Guerra on Tuesday said Carpio has replied to the invitation by sending his regrets.
The Vin D’ Honneur was held Tuesday to celebrate the Philippines’ 114th Independence Day Celebration.
Guerra in a text message said Justice Carpio has consistently declined invitations to attend the traditional Malacañang event.
“He always sends his regrets,” Guerra said.
The Vin D’ Honneur, which is usually held every January and June, is attended by ranking government officials, members of the diplomatic corps as well as members of the Judiciary.
Carpio is the most senior justice of the Supreme Court and is one of the candidates to replace Renato Corona as Chief Justice.
