‘City college law to pass this year’

There will be a Cebu City College ordinance before the year ends.

Cebu City Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young said he would work to pass the proposed ordinance this year.

Young is revising the ordinance proposed by former city councilor Gerardo Carillo which was left in the council committee on laws.

He’s pushing for eight satellite schools for the city college and these schools will be placed in seven existing public schools and a public site in the city.

The areas considered where the schools would be placed were Pardo, Labangon, Guadalupe, Mabolo, Talamban, Gothong High School, Punta Princessa, and in Pasil.

The main campus will be in in barangay Ramos where the Department of Manpower, Development and Placement (DMDP) is located.

All the short term courses in DMDP will now be in the proposed Cebu City College.

The proposal will bring the public college closer to the Cebu City residents as it will be spread out all over the city.

Young said he was hoping that that the implementing rules and regulation (IRR) for the college would be finished by the end of this year.

He said he being the consultant for education wanted to expand the existing Cebu city Nursing College, which was at the Cebu City Medical Center. /Reporter Marian Z. Codilla
